ACBL-wide Charity Game

The ACBL-wide Charity Game will be on Tuesday, March 11 at 7:00. The National Hospice Foundation has been selected as the Charity of the Year for 2003. This selection as the Charity of the Year carries with it a grant of $100,000. The National Hospice Foundation addresses the needs and desires of terminally ill patients, their families and loved ones. Currently there are approximately 500,000 patients in more than 3,100 hospice programs. You can find more information at www.hospiceinfor.org or by phoning the Foundation at 703-516-4928. The local Hospice number is 236-5334.

Junior Fund Games

We will have Junior Fund games on the 5th, 22nd and 25th of March and the 9th, 26th, and 29th of April. These games are sectionally rated. Funds from Junior Fund games help support ACBL programs for players under 26 years of age. The cost is $3.00 per person.

Free Workshop

On Tuesday, March 18th from 11:00 until 3:00 Jack Hadder will conduct a free workshop, Cuebidding to Slams. Jack's workshops are comprehensive, interesting, well presented, and helpful in improving your quest toward mastery of the game of bridge. Slam bidding is not always easy and Blackwood or Gerber not always the answer. This class will help you learn to cuebid your way to the best contract. Bring your lunch.

Return of the Cheaha Sectional Tournament

We will be hosting the Cheaha Sectional Tournament October 10-12. Mark it on your calendars. We'll need lots of your help plus your attendance to make it a success.

Congratulations to

the following shining lights at the Birmingham Sectional:

Mary and Sandy Cook for coming in 2nd in the Thursday evening Stratified Open Pairs, Margie Whitlock and Jeanne Coleman for placing 6th in A, 3rd in B in the Friday Newcomer Pairs, Jack Hadder and Bob Fritzsche for placing 4th in B in the Sat. AM Open Pairs, Jan King and Herb Stappenbeck for their 2nd place finish in the Sat. afternoon Open Pairs, Don Kemp and his B'ham teammates for placing 5th in the Sunday Swiss teams, and Pat Howell and Yvonne Hamby for coming in FIRST in the Sunday AM Newcomers Swiss teams.

There are many excellent bridge players in Birmingham and a finish in the overall standings is excellent. We had at least 16 players there representing Anniston, a very good turnout. If you haven't tried a Sectional yet, give it a shot. You might do a lot better than you expect.
