Montgomery Bridge Club Issues Challenge to Unit 157 Clubs
The members of the Montgomery Bridge Club noted the following notice on the District 10 website:
----------
Report From the Labor Day Regional in Charlotte
"At its annual meeting -- with representatives from each of our 12 units -- the District 7 board authorized a $20,000 entitlement to District 10 to aid in the "rebuilding of bridge." The money comes straight from the district treasury. We also made an official challenge to ALL of the ACBL's district boards to act similarly.
Also at that meeting, the board voted, with Bruce Reeve's approval, that $10,000 in the district directors' discretionary charity fund be sent to the Red Cross, specifically for hurricane relief.
The Mid-Atlantic board, at its annual meeting -- which included significant representation from District 6 --authorized a $20,000 entitlement to District 10 to aid in the "rebuilding of bridge." The money comes straight from the Mid-Atlantic treasury."
As we watch the recovery efforts on the Gulf Coast, thoughts of the affect on bridge playing may not be the first thing that enters our minds, but it is good to know that as things, over time, begin to return to normal that the generosity of Districts 7 and the MABC will help in hurricane relief and will help ensure the recovery of duplicate bridge in this important area of District 10.
---------
Montgomery decided that if it made sense for District 7 and the MABC to support the "rebuilding of bridge" in District 10, that it certainly is important for Units in District 10 to support our Gulf Coast region as well. Montgomery has stepped up to the challenge. Will your club?
MBC proposes to kick-off the "Rebuilding Bridge in District 10" fundraiser in Unit 157, by pledging an amount equal to $10.00 per member of our Club. We challenge all Unit 157 Clubs to join us in giving at least $10 per member to this effort.
In MBC's case, this will be $1040.00, and we are ready to send the check. With about 800 members in our Unit, we could raise upwards of $8000 before the Unit Board Meeting in Cheaha.
