2005 AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE

Alabama Bridge Association, ACBL Unit 157

This is the second annual presentation of the Unit 157 Awards of Excellence. The award was created by the Unit Board in 2004 to honor the Òunsung heroesÓ of our local Clubs. They are the ones who make a difference, often working behind the scenes, in a variety of ways. The names will be called in alphabetical order. If your name is called, please come forward to receive your award.

Nominated by Bridge Club of Anniston, a woman who has held various offices, providing guidance and direction, while maintaining her wonderful outgoing persona. As a successful teacher of Easybridge!, she has brought many new members into the Club. She has promoted Bridge in the community at every opportunity, and is a tireless worker on behalf of Bridge in Anniston. Jeanne Coleman. Congratulations, Jeanne!

Nominated by Birmingham Duplicate Bridge Club, a person who is constantly making life easier, by taking care of tasks and duties around the Clubhouse without being asked, helping set up for tournaments, and by mentoring more than his share of up-and-coming players, as well as capably holding office, and guiding the development of a Strategic Plan for his Club, and for Unit 157. Douglass Hoadley. Congratulations, Doug!

Nominated by Montgomery Bridge Club, a man who has worked in front of the scene as President, Vice-President and Club Manager; and behind the scenes as plumber, electrician, carpenter, and poet, when the need arises. If he hears of a need or chore, he just takes care of it Ð no fanfare. Not only are his game ethics beyond reproach, but his fun-loving, competitive spirit makes it enjoyable to play with him or against him. Oscar T. Johnson. Congratulations, O.T.!

Nominated by Birmingham Duplicate Bridge Club, a woman who has been instrumental in the growth of her Club, by teaching EasyBridge! to a substantial number of new players, who have become active members of the Club. Her manner of teaching is so inviting and pleasant, people just want to learn. She follows through with every project with a smile and kind words and deeds. Bonnie Jung. Congratulations, Bonnie!

Nominated by Bridge Club of Anniston, a person who has served Bridge on many levels: from Director, Club Manager, Tournament Chair, and Teacher at his local Club; to holding office on the Unit 157 Board of directors; to editing the District 10 Forum, and serving as webmaster for our own Unit and District, and others. Maybe we should call him, ÒMr. BridgeÓ!

Don Kemp. Congratulations, Don!
